Systems developer job description
Systems developer/programmer job description include key duties as follows:
1. Observing, testing, diagnosing and fixing faults in the software;
2. Writing and testing code;
3. Writing systems to control the scheduling of jobs on a mainframe computer or to control the access allowed to users or remote systems;
4. Providing written documentation for users, perhaps in conjunction with a technical author;
5. Implements system backup procedures and participates in recovery operations in the event of destruction of all or part of the operating system or other system components.
6. Reviews, tests and evaluates new versions of operating systems and related software.
7. Converts software specification requirements into appropriate programming languages.
8. Participates in the planning, installation and implementation of equipment interfaces and peripheral devices.
9. Analyzes software specifications for completeness and compatibility with operating system capabilities.
10. Reviews and documents software failures and takes corrective action as directed.
11. Provides technical assistance to applications programming personnel and other appropriate user personnel relating to the operating system.
12. Ensures the security and integrity of all systems and data.
13. Recommends policies and procedures for the area.
14. Working with other it specialists both internally and externally;
15. Undertaking project work.
16. Consulting with colleagues or clients with a view to writing or modifying current operating systems;
17. Evaluating and implementing ways to incorporate existing or new technologies;
18. Revises, enhances, updates and installs vendor supplied systems software components to optimize performance of the computer systems.
19. Researches specific technical software and related questions and problems from users, management, programming, operating and systems personnel.
20. Coordinates between personnel using the computer systems and vendor support personnel.
