Manufacturing Engineer job description

Job purpose of Manufacturing Engineer is to designs lean manufacturing processes for customer quotations, prototypes, and long run, high volume production. This individual will be required to participate or lead Advanced Product Quality Planning activities.

Key duties/responsibilities of Manufacturing Engineer:

1. Apply lean principles to layout, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes.
2. Create quotations that include manufacturing process, tooling and gaging, and piece price.
3. Able to manage all aspects of projects related to manufacturing processes to include planning, tracking of timelines and implementation of solutions.
4. Continuously improve the manufacturing process by applying Lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma and SPC tools.
5. Integrates machine tools using automation.
6. Works with various machine tool vendors that supply turning, spline forming, induction hardening, grinding, and hole making equipment.
7. Coordinates all aspects of the job including tool design, fixture design, machine specification and implementation.
8. Provides detailed process documentation. To include tool and fixture drawings, definition of setup, operational procedures and overall process flow.
9. Evaluate non-conformity causes and report results and corrective actions.
10. Assist department managers with projects and/or provide technical advice.
11. Write monthly reports and project reports.
12. Partner with purchasing to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
13. Designs or orders work-holding and gaging .
14. Uses CAD to work with customer drawings, process documentation, process layouts.
15. Creates and follow project timelines.
16. Performs time studies to analyze processing methods to test feasibility of existing processes or new processes, and recommends implementation of improved procedures and process flows.
17. Demonstrates leadership qualities by coordinating team efforts, achieving internal and external delivery requirements, and budgetary requirements.
18. Develop, evaluate and improve processes to insure that manufacturing specifications and procedures are adhered to in relation to quality, method, safety and costs.
19. Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
