Financial auditor job description
Job purpose of Financial auditor is to plan audits to assess internal control design and effectiveness along with ensuring compliance with applicable higher education rules and regulations, standard accounting practices and corporate accounting policies; act as project audit leader in a hands-on audit role; assist in providing recommendations that add value and /or create greater efficiencies with respect to operations and financial reporting; and ensure appropriate utilization of audit resources and completion of assigned projects on schedule.
I. Key duties/responsibilities of Financial auditor:
1. Performing company-wide annual risk assessments and preparation and execution of the annual audit plans.
2. Assist in conducting the overall risk assessment of the company and development of the annual audit plan.
3. Lead, coach and mentor staff auditors to increase their level of proficiency in internal auditing.Coordinate the activities of others outside the department who are assisting on the project.
4. Assist in critical project management including the planning, scheduling, coordinating and reporting of the audit work.
5. Document systems, processes, risks and controls using narratives and/or flowcharts.
6. Analyze and assess information obtained through interviews, observation and review of documentation. Assess risk using the risk based audit approach, if appropriate.
7. Perform assignments related to regulatory compliance, operational auditing, and financial auditing.
8. Identify errors and control deficiencies. Understand and communicate the downstream impact on the business of control deficiencies. Identify and recommend cost savings and improvement opportunities. Assist management with the development of corrective action plans and follow-up on completion of corrective action plans.
9. Provide updates throughout the project and present audit findings and recommendations to management. Communicate the results of the project in both a written report and oral presentation, as appropriate.
10. Maintain internal audit independence and objectivity in all assignments.
11. Execute internal audit procedures, schedules, priorities and programs for achieving audit objectives and goals.
12. Develop the work plan including time estimate, target dates and deliverables Manage project to completion within estimated time, target dates and deliverables.
13. Communicate with the audit customer to gain an understanding of the area being reviewed. Obtain input and advise management of findings and barriers throughout the project.
14. Prepare audit reports focusing on the quality, usefulness, and accuracy of the information being presented.
15. Maintain all approved communications with auditees and field personnel.
16. Partner with management on audits, consulting engagements and special projects to ensure the delivery of timely, relevant and actionable feedback and/or recommendations.
17. Stay abreast of industry developments and updates to technical standards through continuing education and provide conduit for establishing those practices within the company.
18. Continually refine and communicate audit plan objectives to mitigate risks to ensure ongoing compliance.
19. Liaison between corporate, field and division staff.
20. Determine the audit/consulting project scope and objectives and communicate to management as appropriate. Continually assess project scope and level of testing based on results of work done in order to address high-risk areas and minimize time spent on low-risk areas.
21. Participate in special assignments as deemed necessary by executive leadership.
22. Identify and recommend business process changes resulting in strengthened internal controls and operational efficiencies.
23. Ensure that recommendations are clearly presented to management and that a subsequent audit report is issued promptly.
24. Test and verify that all agreed-upon recommendations are subsequently implemented.
