1. Contents of a person specification:

include 5 components as follows:

1.1 Job title, department.

1.2 Knowledge / Qualifications.

What specific education or course background do you require?

1.3 Skills.

  • Think in terms of technical, organizational, communicative or creative skills
  • Apply each skill required with the specific job tasks

1.4 Experience.

  • What level of experience (if any) is needed?
  • Length of experience gained – in which specific industries and departments

1.5 Abilities

  • Physical characteristics: Including health, strength, endurance, age, range, body size, height, weight, vision, poise, eye, hand and foot coordination etc
  • Mental characteristics: Special attitude, such as manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, in germinate, judgment, resourceful, etc

2. Person specification should be avoided:

Items like sex, experience, skill, education, etc are invariably included.

3. Assessment method of requirements:

You can use methods as follows in order to assess requirements in person specification:

  • P: pre-application
  • A: Application
  • I: Interview
  • T: test or
  • D: Documentary evidence

4. Types of job criteria:

  • Essential criteria are those absolutely necessary to do the job.
  • Desirable criteria are those not necessary but it it criteria preferred.
