Construction inspector job description
Job purpose of Construction inspector is to conducts tests to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications
Key duties/responsibilities of Construction inspector:
1. Performs destructive and nondestructive tests on metals and other materials through magnaflex, dye-penetrant, radiographic, tension and compression, paint thickness, and resistivity.
2. Performs surveillance of underground piping to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade.
3. Verifies equipment alignment and balancing operations.
4. Administers welder qualification tests.
5. Recommends job safety practices and drafts safety reports.
6. Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.
7. Inspects and monitors piling installation to ensure location and bearing.
8. Checks location of reinforcing steel before placement of concrete.
9. Validates piping systems, including P&ID checks and hydraulic or other pressure tests.
10. Inspects electrical installations to ensure proper grounding, circuit integrity, and adherence to statutory and customer regulations.
11. Performs continuing inspection of painting and insulation to ensure thickness and coverage continuity.
12. Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.
13. Performs civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slump, air entrainment, concrete compression, lines and grades surveys, bolt torques, and concrete coring.
14. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
